Our History

Discovery Sailing really started in late 1999 with the purchase of a Hallberg-Rassy sloop.   We conducted live-aboard charters for a number of years and then conducted Sail Canada courses.  In 2011 we established Discovery Sailing as a RYA Training Centre and conducted RYA Practical Courses until the end of 2023.  Since then we have operated as a Shore-based Centre.

Instructor/Owner

 Dave DeWolfe is the owner and Instructor.  He has just retired as a RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Examiner, having retired as a Yachtmaster Instrucror in 2023. 

He has a a commercial RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean certificate and in 2011 was awarded the Nova Scotia Male Sailor of the Year award.  

Dave is a member of the Royal Institute of Navigation.

He now enjoys sailing his smaller boat, a Nonsuch 26 named 'Ascension'.
